THOUSAND CRANES

Volunteer

The Initiative

A Thousand Cranes is a community services platform, working with women and children. In Japan, cranes are thought to be holy creatures who live for a thousand years. Folding a thousand paper cranes, is believed to bring luck and happiness. That’s what we seek to do – multiply joy, hope, and happiness through working together.

Engaging Children through Science-Themed Arts and Crafts

In 2022, I volunteered with the '1000 Cranes' team at the Government Children's Cancer Hospital, where I played a significant role in setting up arts and crafts activities for young patients. These activities were designed to be both engaging and educational, often centered around scientific topics such as the butterfly life cycle. By integrating science into creative projects, we aimed to spark the children's interest in learning while providing a therapeutic and enjoyable experience during their hospital stay.

Empowering Young Artists and Supporting Their Needs

Beyond the arts and crafts sessions, our team worked to empower the children by helping them sell their handmade art pieces. We organized and managed small stalls where the children could display and sell their creations. This initiative not only boosted their confidence and sense of accomplishment but also provided a practical way for them to contribute to their own needs. The funds raised from these sales were used to purchase necessary materials and resources, directly benefiting the children's ongoing activities and care.
