We the Locals: Empowering Sustainable Communities
Mobile App
Parikrama Innovation Challenge
Recognizing the growing issue of people cultivating non-native species, I created 'We the Locals'—an app dedicated to nurturing a sustainable community through small, impactful lifestyle changes. The app encourages users to conserve water, grow native crops, and support local businesses, among other eco-friendly practices. Each task, though seemingly minor, collectively fosters a ripple effect of positive change.

'We the Locals' tracks user progress, offers practical tips and connects like-minded neighbours who share a commitment to sustainability. By making these small adjustments, we promote a healthier environment, support our local economy, and build a more connected community. Each user can upload pictures of their progress be it growing a plant or buying from local vendors.
The app empowers users to see the tangible benefits of their efforts, making sustainability an achievable goal for everyone.

Discover a variety of options, from delicious local recipes that connect you with vendors growing your favourite crops, to a seamless feature that connects you with local collectors of different waste products depending on the waste you want to be recycled. These contacts include local kabadiwalas for newspaper waste and electrical repair shops for electrical waste. Additionally, the user can stay informed about alternate energy sources tailored to your region's weather and availability, empowering you to make eco-friendly choices.

With 'We the Locals,' the power of collective action is at your fingertips, proving that together, we can make a significant difference. By leveraging technology to drive local engagement, the app not only addresses environmental challenges but also strengthens the social fabric of our neighborhoods. Join us in this initiative and be part of a movement that champions sustainable living and community empowerment.
